A declaration of faith that you must say prior to becoming a Muslim.
What is the declaration?
"Ash-hadu an La Ilaha
Illallahu, wa Ash-hadu anna
Muhammadur RasulAllah."
I bear witness that there is no God but Allah,
and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."
What does it mean?
When a Muslim recites this they proclaim:
- That Allah is the only God, and that Muhammad is his prophet
- That they personally accept this as true
- That they will obey all the commitments of Islam in their life

Before Prayer
The area must be clean before prayer can commence
Often they will pray on mats.

Salat is the obligatory Muslim prayers, performed five times each day by Muslims
Prayer reminds Muslims that they are dependant on God.

Fasting - Muslims are required to fast during Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

What does the fast include?
adult Muslims must give up the following things during the hours of daylight:
Food or drink of any sort
Smoking, including passive smoking

Eating in Ramadan
Suhur - a large meal just before dawn.
When daylight is over, most Muslims will break or open the fast with dates or water, following the example of the Prophet Muhammad, before having a proper meal later.
Eid ul-Fitr
The month of Ramadan ends with the festival of Eid ul-Fitr.
This is marked by dressing up and visiting the mosque for prayer, and with visits to family and friends for celebratory meals.
