with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Selma, Albama.

Amelia Boynton Robinson was born on August 18, 1911 Savannah,Georgia and died on August 26, 2015 Montgomery Albama at the age of 104.

Amelia Boynton was recognized

for leading the 1965 civil rights march,

which took place on March 7, 1965.

Six hundred people crossed the

Edmund Pettus Bridge to start the

Selma to Montgomery march. State

troopers started to attack the protesters

and attempted to stop the march for

voting rights.

Amelia Boynton and some of the

other protesters were brutally beaten

and that day was known as the Bloody

Sunday. Amelia Boynton was also

recognized for being the first black

woman to run for congress in Albama.

Amelia Boynton won the Martin Luther King Jr. Medal of Freedom. Amelia Boynton got married three times!
