WHAT DO THE AZTECS THINK

Beliefs

Geography

The Aztecs Believed in the Gods and that if they Disobeyed what the go have said, then they thought they would die by their wrath. So when the gods told them they needed to build a new colony. • Huitzilopochtli, the god of war, told them they would find an eagle perched on the top of a cactus, as a sign that this was the land that where they would settle. Also, being the god of war, the Aztecs thought that they needed to sacrifice to the gods, in order to appease them.

The Aztecs lived in Mesoamerica, they settled on a marshy island. The city the Aztec's selltled in was named Tenochtitlan. They survived in the marshy area by creating artifical islands or "chinampa's". The marshy island was located in lake Texcoco and the land surrounding the lake was marshy and had many springs.

Economy

The economy of the Aztecs were very different from the economy today. For instance, the aztecs money was varied in CaCao beans and cotton cloaks. You could buy a slave for the amount of 100 cloaks, and a slave that can sing and dance for the amount of 200 cloaks

Knowledge

The Aztecs knowledge was not well when it came to knowing about their surroundings (like the Europeans) however, they did know about neighbouring tribes, since they had merchents that could give vital information to their tribes survival. The aztecs were very smart when it came to a battle plan. Moctezuma was the greatest battle planner, which is why they conquered neighbouring tribes.

Society

The Society of the Aztecs was very Set out. They had a Hierarchy. This is where the King (emperor Moctezuma at the time) was ruler and there was a system going from Nobility to slaves. The Aztecs also had certain rules regarding hieygyene. The Aztecs also had a way of going up the Social Status. A slave wouldn't stay a slave forever, if you were hard enough of a worker, you were "bumped" up in the status from slave to Something like Farmer, or Artisan

Time

The aztecs beleived there were 5 eras, the first ended by jaguars, the second Hurricanes, third fiery rain and the fourth a flood. The aztecs had 2 calendars, a spiritual calendar and a solar calendar. The sacred (spiritual calendar) had 260 days and took exactly 52 years to "catch up" to the solar calendar.
