‘How can three teachers,
while two are in training,
improve instruction with the AUSL model?’
- Math is generally taught for the standardized test. - - Since the MAP tests, the mentor has emphasized that students are working on their weak areas to improve their ISAT scores.
- Some students who are new to the AUSL model find it difficult to understand the purpose of the strict expectations
- Mentor has better classroom management
- Data is constantly and consistently used to fine-tune instructional methods
Through observations, assessments (such as exit slips, quizzes, and test), and videos, I have collected data to show the effectiveness of the different teachers. While it has been difficult to measure the effectiveness of instruction, as each teacher alternates classes on a daily basis, I have observed the foundation of instruction- classroom management- and how it varies with each teacher.
Along with measuring teacher effectiveness, I intend to delve deeper into other facets of public education- such as student responses to the AUSL model, administration effectiveness, and math instructions.
I intend to continue videotaping and collecting data to deepen my understanding while answering my question.
- From my observations, I believe that my mentor is more effective in instruction (as she has more control of the classroom).
- My co-resident and I have been building better rapport with some students, who are focusing more in class.
- Based on observations, students who fight against the system tend to misbehave more frequently in class.
- Some students view math as a subject that is learned to simply pass the ISAT.
