Definition

FEAR AND SUSPICION

Labor Camps

Enemy aliens: Non-citizen who come from an enemy country

-In WWI the War measures Act had finally come into effect for the 1st time in Canada, at this time Canada was still apart of Britain.

-Over thousand enemy aliens were deported or forced into Internment camps, and took away their property.

-At this time Britain and the allied powers were at war with Central powers such as Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire as well as some parts in the Ukraine

-These camps had horrible conditions and they where forced to work on rail ways, road building or mining.

-This caused a problem because there where already Immigrants from these countries in Canada. This created suspicion which cause Canada to consider them Enemy aliens.

-The enemy aliens were not allowed to leave until the 1920's - two years after WWI had ended. But!

Upon their release non of them had land nor a possession or property to go too.

-People began to get concerned about these "enemy aliens" ended up forcing them to get ID cards and forced them to carry them at all times. they were no longer permitted to publish or read anything in any language other then English or French. They took away the ability to join gov't or have any alliterations with firearms.

The gov't did not offer an apology or compensate anything for these people. They where left their own devices.

-despite all these actions Canada had taken the citizens where still in fear of these enemy aliens and began demanding them to be locked up, because they believed them to be spy's or terrorist .
