- Metabolic Disorder
- Characterized by increased levels of the amino acid histidine,
(a building block of most proteins)
- Caused by defiecency in the enzyme that breaks down histidine
Due to the lack of actual symptoms in the disease there is debate over what to do about it, there have been trials in which a low histidine diets have been used to treat the disorder however not much difference was made
Histidinemia is diagnosed by a blood test and urine test, both of which will show high levels of the amino acid histidine.
There is debate over whether Histidinemia should be considered a disease since there are virtually no external and very little internal symptoms
