Because The Three Faces of Eve had such limited input from Chris, she published 'I'm Eve' and 'A Mind of My Own' to tell her own story. She currently lives in North Carolina with her husband Don, and has two children, Bobby and Taffy.
Her two psychiatrists wrote a book called 'The Three Faces of Eve' with very little input from Chris, which later turned into a feature film. Even though the doctor's used a false name to protect her identity, she said she felt 'exploited' and 'objectified' by the publicity surrounding the book and the movie.
In 1974, under the care of her eighth doctor, Tony Tsitos, her 'final' stable personality emerged, 22 years after she was first diagnosed in 1952.
She was born in 1927 in South Carolina. Unlike the majority of the cases of DID, she was not abused as a child. She claims her personalities came about as a result of witnessing her mother badly cutting her arm with a knife, a drowned man being recovered from a ditch, and a man being cut in half at a lumber year, all within 3 months of each other when she was 2 years old.
She had approximately 22 personalities, which appeared in groups of three: the timid, the flamboyant, and the practical- all battling for control over her.
While all the publicity surrounding the book and movie was going on, Chris had still not been cured of DID and her calm and sensible personality 'Jane' vanished, and other personalities emerged such as the 'Purple Lady' and the 'Turtle Lady. She became violent and, on two occasions, attempted suicide.
