Independent Practice

Students will receive a worksheet that will need to be completed in the amount of time give.

Assessment

Each student will be handed a visual to create an open-mind portrait. They will individually write on the back of their given portrait about what they have learned about the person/place. The students will be able to use their worksheet and graphic organizers.

  • Jamestown begins to grow.

  • Growing tobacco required many workers.
  • Indentured servants helped grow tobacco.
  • Jamestown was a poor choice of settlement.
  • More than half of colonists died the first year.
  • John Smith was the captain of Jamestown.

(1.) understand the relationships between the colonists and the Native Americans.

(2.) discuss the factors that helped Jamestown survive (John Smith, tenuous peace with Native Americans, Pocahontas, and indentured servants.)
