Classification

MANIC episodes

Biopolar disorder may represent either both depressive or a manic episodes most suffers endure their first biopolar experiences at the age between 14 to 23. During their twenties many patients episodes decrease by up to 90%. Bipolar suffers will experience their first episode before they are 50. It is very rare for an elderly individual to suffer from biopolar disorder.

Classification of the different types has been debatable for a long time to categories more subtypes of bipolar for example bipolar 3 which has been defined to mean were a person experiences a hypo manic or manic switch after receiving an anti depressant.

What is bipolar disorder?

What is bipolar 1?

A manic episode is a period of high moods that effect work, social interaction and family involvement due to hyperactive behavior, in order to be a manic episode it must last for or more than 4 days according to DMV.

Symptoms include:

  • mood swings
  • rapid speech
  • racing thoughts
  • irritation
  • increased physical activity
  • use of drugs and alcohol
  • decreased need of sleeps
  • skipping work
  • euphoria

In mania these symptoms experienced are more extreme and severe, mystical experiences can reach delusional intensity with the development of other psychotic symptoms.

Treatment

Depression

Bipolar 1 disorder is characterized when the person experiences at least one or more episodes in a week or more.

Bipolar 1 disorder requires treatment such as mood stabilizes and anti psychotics and sedative-hypnotics

There are mainly four types of mood episodes in bipolar disorder: mania, hypo mania, depression, and mixed episodes. In the manic phase of bipolar disorder, feelings of heightened energy, creativity, and euphoria are common. Whereas depressive phases fall into severe depression where suffers cannot get of bed, for it to be severe it must last for longer than 4 days and be disruptive to social involvement and work or other. Bipolar 1 is psychotic mania were suffers have long periods of mania with psychotic experiences for example seeing and smelling things that are not identifiable to others in surrounding area. In bipolar 2 suffers experience longer periods of depression with bursts of mania then a period of normality. This is more common in teenagers, where as in bipolar 1 it is not common to find in teenagers.

Help centers

Depression in bipolar experience is generally of a melancholic or psychotic type of depression. It is of more biological nature.

Bipolar 1 and 2

Both cases of depression in bipolar 1 & 2 are relatively the same, both with a similar psycho motor disturbance component. However younger bipolar 2 suffers are more likely to sleep more and have food cravings while suffering from depression. It is more prominent for bipolar 2 suffers to also suffer from severe depression.
