In the end, the treaty of Paris was signed in Paris, France on September 3, 1783. This gave the thirteen colonies their indepence from Great Britain and the colonies were now free to join together and become the United States of America.
Many things were invented during the Revolutionary War, such as...
-One of the main weapons used were called muzzle loading flintlock muskets, which were basically just guns, but WAY more complicated.
It all started with the French and Indian War. Everyone knows that the British won and at the time. the colonists were proud to be British, but King George had great amounts of debt due to the fact that he had spent so much money buying expensive weapons and materials for his army. So in order to pay off his debt, he taxed the colonists, which made them incredibly angry. They did not want to be taxed on things that they usually got for free, so they started boycotting against buying British goods, which of course made the King furious. So, he sent over soldiers to the colonies to make sure that the colonists were doing the right thing. Then, a young ship owner brought over a shipload of taxed tea and demand that he see it unloaded, which led to the famous event known as the Boston Tea Party.
-The well known experiment (conducted by Benjamin Franklin) of when he flew a kite in a lightning storm. This experiment led to the discovery that lightning bolts are also very powerful electrical currents.
-Another weapon that was used was a cannon, which is well known and much used weapon that shot cannon-balls at the enemy with great power and velocity.
-A lesser known scientist (by the name of David Rittenhouse), who was an astronomer, created two orreries, which are mechanical devices that show the relative positions of the planets and the moons in the solar system.
The Intolerable Acts
After the act of the Boston Tea Party, the king imposed the Intolerable Acts. This was one of the more major causes of the American Revolution. Some of these included:
The Battles of Lexington and Concord
- The closing of the port of Boston until the Dutch East India Company could be repaid for the tea.
-At the Battle of Lexington, there were only 77 minutemen on the Americans side. Then a random shot was fired and the British opened up on the Americans. Eight of the Americans were killed and ten were wounded, while the British suffered very little.
- Putting the Massachusetts government almost entirely under British control.
-At the battle of Concord, the Americans were very prepared. The brought 400 minutemen which caused the British to flee. Little did they know, the Americans were hidden in the woods, in which they would jump out and attack the British. This was called guerilla warfare. The British were unaware that they were very vulnerable to this form of fighting. One, because they wore bright red which you could see very easily in the forest. Two, because the British had to walk in a straight line, no matter
the circumstances.
The first social impact caused by the American Revolution was the relationships between different countries. Spain had no interest in making an alliance between themselves and the colonies. They wanted to take advantage of the fact that Britain was occupied with the colonists. The French felt otherwise and decided to ally with the colonies.
The second social effect was mainly focused on the Indians. Most of the Indians sided with the British because they were bribed and were told promises that would not be kept. Some of the other Indians sided with the colonists because they thought that they were the stronger side.
The American Revolution was a big and well known war. It was a war between the British and the Colonists (Americans). It had many economical effects on the colonies, and not in a good way. The conflict between the Colonists and the British also had a big effect on the relationships between the Colonies and other countries. This war had many causes. It was more of a domino effect where one thing led to another then next thing you know, a war has started. The American Revolution started a movement that even after the war was over, it led to other things that has effected the way were live today.
With the colonies being in conflict with Britain, other countries started to either slow trade or stop trading all together with America. This caused the amount of money being brought in to plummet. This also caused businesses to have large amounts of debt or go out of business all together. Prices began to rise and taxes came soon after. In the end, it took almost twenty years before the economy began to turn around.
The third social effect was focused on the African Americans. Most slaves were told that they would be given freedom if they were to side with the British, but of course those were promises that would not be kept.
When America was first separated from Britain, they wanted to be as different from Britain as physically possible, so they decided to make the Articles of Confederation (which was just an earlier version of the Constitution) in 1777. What was planned to be a genius and perfect plan ended up being a nightmare. The state and federal government had no power to tax citizens. They were very unsure that the government would be able to guarantee stability. This indicated that the government needed to be stronger. So, the founders began drafting the Constitution.
