is going to stay with his father since his parents’

the small single-engine plane that will take him

to Canada. Little does he know that this trip

will change his life forever.

When Brian saw the wolf

Quote: "He was not the same now the Brian that stood and watched the wolves move away nodded was completely changed"

When Brian nodded to the wolves it made him realise that he really had changed and it made him feel really good and he thought back on what he had done and all the skills he had developed

Attacked by a moose

Brian had to endure obstacles

The tornado hits

Sprayed by a skunk

Theme

Growing up and finding strength in one’s own character.

Hatchet is the story of Brian’s experience

in the Canadian wilderness and of his becoming

aware of his potential. Stripped of all the

comforts and conveniences of his former life,

Brian must find the inner resources that will

help him fight for his life and ultimately move

from childhood into adulthood.

Extension

What does he learn about his environment and about himself from his time in the wilderness?

How do these situations and challenges change Brian? He becomes ‘new’ Brian, explain this.

Brian learns about how intense the outdoors are and he probably hasn't had much exposure to it so it is a bit mind blowing and it is much different to what he is used to and he also learns that living in the city is a lot easier and if he works at something he can achieve it

These challenges change Brian by making him adapt into the climate that he is in. The old Brian would have never been able to survive for 54 days in the forest but the transformed Brian can.

Brian finds turtle eggs

Quote: "More than eggs, more than knowledge, more than anything this is food"

Brian finally found something good to eat other then e gut berries and raspberries and he knew that he had to save them because he didn't know how long he was going to be out there and there were only 17. Where as the old Brian would have eaten them all at once
