Arctic/Alpine Tundra

Soil Type: The Arctic Tundra has poor soil due to how it is mostly all frozen over.

Permafrost Soil: A thick subsurface layer of soil that remains frozen throughout the year, occurring mainly in polar regions

Climate: The temperature of the Arctic tundra varies from about 10oC (50oF) in summer to -40oC (-40oF) or below in winter. These conditions mean that there is little food for animals to live on, so the Arctic tundra can only support a small number of species.

Adaptations:

Polar bears have think skin and fur that provide insulation

and Walrus have blubber that also provides insulation

- Silverweed

- Lupine

Adaptations:

The silky hairs on the plants
