Parts of the Brain

Sources

“Music and the Brain: What Happens When You're Listening to Music.” Pegasus Magazine, www.ucf.edu/pegasus/your-brain-on-music/.

Wernicke's Area- The part of the brain used to analyze and enjoy music. This is very important because it makes us happy!

Cerebellum- The part of the brain that memorizes. A quote from Scientist Sugaya-“An Alzheimer’s patient, even if he doesn’t recognize his wife, could still play the piano if he learned it when he was young because playing has become a muscle memory. Those memories in the cerebellum never fade out,” . Alzheimers disease is where you start to forget many things.

Nucleus Accumbens-Seeks pleasure and reward and plays a big role in addiction, as it releases the neurotransmitter dopamine. Music plays a big part in the release of dopamine, which is what makes us happy!

Why do People Love Music so Much?

Did you know?

“The frontal lobe is the most important to being a human. We have a big frontal lobe compared to other animals. By listening to music, we can enhance its functions,”(Sugaya). The frontal lobe is the part of the brain that is in the very front. It is really awesome and without it, we wouldnt be the way we are!
