Love of Nature

"Joy to the world! the savior reigns

let men their songs employ

while field and floods

rocks, hills and plains

repeat the sounding joy

repeat the sounding joy"

Conformity

Civil Disobedience

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was the man that changed the world as we know it. King stood up and fought for his rights as a African American. "It is only because of King and the movement that he led that the U.S. can claim to be the leader of the "free world" without inviting smirks of disdain and disbelief (White)." King always fought his hardest but never with violence, even though he faced violence every day. He always stood up for what he believed was right and always accepted the consequences. Even though his life was taken from him, his followers never stopped fighting for him and his dedication to free his people from discrimination.

Individualism

In the movie Fahrenheit 451 the main character, Guy Montag, lives in a society where books are absolutely forbidden. This movie takes place in the future, so everything is completely different. Guy is a fireman, but not an ordinary fireman. The firemen in the future all burn books because they don't want the people to gain more knowledge, because the society they created would be ruined. This really takes everyone's individualism because they should be able to have the right to enjoy or learn from reading books. This is ultimately how every society is in one way or another, the situation just varies.

Fahrenheit 451

Ralph Waldo Emerson

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”

In Depth

Ralph Waldo Emerson is the father of transcendentalism. The main focus of transcendentalism is individuality. This quote explains that being yourself is a necessity in our society. Many people are pushed and influenced to be something they're not. Emerson is saying that the ultimate accomplishment is to live your life your way, rather than becoming something you're not.

Transcendentalism?

These lyrics represent transcendentalism by

expressing people's joy for the nature God has created. The noise of the waves, floods, and fields create happiness and love for nature.
