RENT the Musical Creators
Why We choose Rent the Musical
I have always loved Rent, for as long as I remember. But we as a group choose Rent because we love the message of community the musical has. We loved the support and love each of characters have for each other. As well as it really is a true story, about realistic people with real life problems. Compared to other more fictional musicals.

JOnathon Larson
Jonathan Larson wrote both the music and books for Rent the musical. He was inspired loosely on the opera, and chose to bring it a New York setting. The musical includes aspects based on Larson's life, having a fire pit for heat, having a girlfriend who was a dancer who occasionally dated women, also including experiences with his roommates. Unfortunately Jonathan passed away the night of the off broadway performance. The Rent we all know and love today is due to Larson's death, in which the cast agreed to perform the musical by singing the songs sitting on 3 basic tables, eventually the high energy music made the cast
begin to dance. Rent had found its light. Larson's Rent won him many awards, including the Tony Award for best book, best score, and best musical.
His legacy continues to this day with his gift of Rent the Musical.
