Passing the Baton

In this cartoon, Fidel is passing Cuba over to his brother. They both are Communist leaders. Fidel overthrew the government in the '50s, becoming the dictator until 2008. Castro played a large part in the Cold war because Russia attempted to place bombs on Cuba. America was scared because we are very VERY close to cuba. This cartoon makes me laugh because they are both very old, in wheel chairs, and have a blanket covering them. Even though they look like harmless old men, they are both ruthless killers who believe their government system is the correct one.

Retirement

The Cartoon shows Fidel Castro in a floral shirt sitting in a boat. He is fishing. In the boat is a small group of fish. The fish are chained up like the hypothetical chains that are on the citizens of Cuba. This cartoon tells us that even though he is no longer dictator of Cuba, he is still Communist. He was a very successful Communist dictator for over 50 years in Cuba, and that time included the Cold War. During that time, there were bomb threats and a missile crisis because Russia wanted to place Nuclear warheads on Cuba. This picture makes me giggle because he is so calm while he is fishing, he looks like a normal person. Even if he is no longer dictator of Cuba, he is still in favor of Communism.

Missile Crisis

The cartoon shows the leaders of two superpowers (Russia and USA) arm wrestling with a twist, they are sitting on Nuclear bombs, and their fingers are over the trigger. Russia threatned to place Nuclear weapons in Cuba, and America was very afraid because we are very close to Cuba. America made a line and told Russia that if they cross it, then we will bomb them. This cartoon shows just how close we could have actually been to a war that was not so cold. We were only a push of a button away from blowing the entire planet into a smoldering mass of magma. The picture should scare everybody a little bit because it just goes to show that we could explode into nothingness in a matter of seconds.

Cold War Cartoons

Revolution Like mine

This Cartoon shows Castro towering over a person who is in rags and is chained up. Castro is talking to a man from Brazil telling him that he needs to have a revolution in Brazil like the one in Cuba. During this time, Brazil was facing some economic hardships and had recently had a new president take the leadership. I feel like the cartoon is accurate for what was happening in the Communist Cuba. The man is chained up and is in nothing but rags, I fall under the sterotypical assumption that all citizens in Communist countries are faced to live like this

This is gona hurt me more than it hurts you

This cartoon shows the Russians putting nuclear bombs into Fidel Castros teeth, like a dentist working in someones mouth. The Russians wanted to instal nuclear war heads into Communist Cuba. Once JFK found out about this, he put up a blockade and told the Russians that if they crossed the line then we would take it as a sign of aggression. We would then bomb them into the stone age. I personally find this funny because it just looks amusing. I also feel that when people saw it during the Cold War times, they would not have appreciated it, pushing JFK towards the possible WWIII.

You Fool!

This Cartoon has Fidel standing on a group of dead people. He is holding a smoking gun, and President Carter is asking him how he can kill a bunch of protesters. Castro says that he is a Communist Dictator. This goes all the way back to the '50s when Castro became dictator of Cuba. Shortly after Castro came to power, the Cold War began. The picture kind of frightens me because it goes to show that anything can happen in Communist countries if you are the dictator. Castro can easily kill large groups of people and no one will dissagree (at least openly) in his country. This makes me happy that I live in America.
