At two years old most kangaroos are old enough to have children of their own. A fully grown kangaroo can weigh as much as a much as a large man. The kangaroo’s powerful legs allow it to make jumps of up to nine meters distance and up to two and a half meters high.
When the kangaroo is about 10 months old it will become too big for the mother hold in her pouch. At this stage the kangaroo weighs about the same as a nine year old girl. An advanced joey is learning to live without its mother but still needs her protection.

When the baby kangaroo has finished all its growing the mother will allow it to come out of the pouch for minutes at a time. Slowly the young kangaroo will spend more and more time outside of the pouch, although it will stay close to its mother’s side. A scared kangaroo jumps head first into its mothers pouch.

When the kangaroo is born it is about the size of a jellybean. Because the baby kangaroo is so small the mother cannot touch it. In order for it to crawl into the mothers pouch the mother has to like a path on her fur for the baby to follow.
The Male and Female kangaroos find each other and then begin to mate to create a little baby joey. It grows inside the mother until its developed enough to come out.
