The mining industry is one of the Canadian Shield's most refined resources. Many minerals such as gold, silver and nickel can be found here, The vast amount of forest in this region makes forestry a very popular industry. Also the large amount of lakes, rivers, and other bodies of water make it so that the area has a great income of hydro-electricity.

What's that?

The population of the Canadian Shield is widely spread out . The majority of people live south of the shield. There is only a handful of cities with a population of over 100 000 people, such as Thunder Bay, Sudbury and Saguenay

The Canadian Shield is an area where rising and falling, folding, erosion and continental ice sheets have indented the surface creating the Hudson Bay. It also dug out many lakes and basins and cleared most of the debris. It is composed of granite, and has the earth's greatest area of exposed precambrian rock (formed 500 million years ago). The Canadian Shield is mostly composed of granite and igneous rock.
