Military Stress

No Money For Military

  • As we know, The Roman Empire has one of the strongest and most successful armies in history.
  • But, the Over expansion of the Roman Empire eventually caused military stress and tough situations faced within the Empire. To begin with...........
  • The Roman Empire eventually over expanded.
  • Therefore the roman government needed quite the amount of resources and to maintain safety within the trade routes.
  • Therefore taxes and tributes (a tax or payment opposed by the ruler) were constantly high for non-Romans or barbarians within the empire cover the military's expenses.
  • Because of such heavy taxes and tributes, the citizens and barbarians began rebelling against the Roman Government.
  • Hatred arose and the citizens distrusted the Roman government and their loyalty became questionable.

Trading and Hunger

Over Expansion of the Roman Empire

  • Your traders then don’t want to trade with you,
  • and you need trade, because your economy is down and your people aren’t working so it means that you don’t have resources
  • and people are losing money and they don’t have enough resources for every one.

Invaders and Assassination

Trying to save your Empire

The Expansion also caused

Piracy

Prices of goods

Your enemies see this as a chance that can never come back the chance to conquer you and they do, then the whole empire stands with your enemy’s line and want you killed. All of this was, because you wanted more land, resources, money and power and over expanding your empire and in the end you lost your life and the empire is destroyed.

But its to late you lost control and if you do something correct than another thing approaches and you cant solve it.

  • The emperor has to make the prices of goods higher
  • and people don’t want that so they don’t want the emporer

Which means: The practice of the pirate, an illegal or violent robbery at sea.

  • The over expansion of the roman empire benefited the empire as they did have full control of the Mediterranean Sea.
  • People traded in peace and harmony.
  • Although the uncivilized barbarians practiced piracy causing a slight economic threat.

Rebellions

  • During the "Pax Romana" the size of the Roman Empire was 2,750,000 km wide.
  • Communication may have been the hardest trait to acquire within the empire.
  • Commanders of a certain fleet couldn't contact the general or emperor quickly. Therefore it lead to.........
  • if the military didn’t take its money, then they could start to rebel or leave the army
  • that could lead that they were threatening you.

Social Gap

Borders left Undefended

Poor Leadership

But when the emperor raises taxes, that means that the social gap between the high class and the low class increase.

and then people could start to rebel

and the low class was all slaves that could lead that there wasn’t inequality.

Then the people start to call you a unfair corrupt leader

and they think you want the money for your own benefit

and they hate you and want to kill you so the people don’t want you anymore.

  • Parts of the empires borders were left undefended.
  • Therefore barbarians took the chance and attacked the undefended regions which gave them a place to settle.
  • The Empires territory slowly while the military is unaware.

Failing System of Succession

Taxes

Unfairness

  • people then fight to take the thrown
  • and the military wants to engage in politics
  • and they would stop guarding the borders and a revolution could start.

So the emperor had to raise taxes so I could have enough money to pay the military which leads that my economy fell.

so it meant for them that they had to work twice as hard as they did

Administrative stress

Sacks and Invasions

Barbarians Knowledge

Your Name in History

  • Military: Loss of Loyalty: First I have the military who are tired of opening new countries,
  • so they can’t guard the borders well.
  • Then everyone relied on the Mercenaries which wasn’t a good thing, but why?
  • Mercenaries fought for money, so they could easily betray you in order for money, also they were expensive, but also the solders started to fight for money not for their country.
  • so this could lead that they became irresponsible and didn’t care about their country.
  • The Barbarians obtained the Roman's Empires military Tactics gradually as they stayed within the Empire.
  • They were although allowed to serve in the army. This lead to.............

Then your name is in History, but as a corrupt leader who gave up on his country.

Sacks: To loot a city after capturing

This lead to a series of sacks and invasions because of the barbarians turning against the empire.
