Interstate Commerce Commission - a former independent agency that supervised and set rates for carriers that transported goods and services between states. (Known as The Surface Transportation Board)

The Interstate Commerce commission manages the transportation of goods in the United States. Their responsibility is to diffuse the imports and exports all around the country; it is a domestic transportation system of the government.

The services provided include : trucking, hotel busses, school busses, railroads, national park busses, taxi cabs, and any other transportation companies

  • Background : Beginning February 4th , 1887, The Interstate Commerce Act created an Interstate Commerce Commission to supervise the conduct of the railroad industry. With this Act, the railroads became the first industry subject to federal regulation.
  • Formed by the U.S. Federal government, employed indiviuals involved with importing and exporting goods between states were under jurisdiction of the Interstate Commerce Commission.
  • The I.C.C. is the oldest living regulator, employers vary in several numbers depending on the type of service and business, located in every state in the U.S., and is governed by The Congress.
