-Louie ran a mile in Boston that was six-tenths of a second short of the fastest mile ever

-Louie joined the Army Air Corps

-The olympics were canceled officially

-The men at POW camps were told that "the war was over."

-Planes flew overhead and dropped gifts to the POW's (candy, cigarettes, magazines)

-September 2, 1945 Japan signed it's surrender, the war was over

-Louie's crew boarded a plane and headed to Hawaii

-The crew was called to a rescue mission on the "Green Hornet"

-The plane crashed into the sea, leaving only Phil, Mac, and Louie alive

-Louie and Phil survived the sea for 47 days before being found by the Japanese and transferred to POW camps

-Louie competed in the Olympics in Berlin and had an astonishing finish. He beat his personal last lap record by more than 8 seconds. Hitler said to Louie, "Ah, you're the boy with the fast finish."

-Louie arrived home in Torrance, they had a parade

-Louie attends the University of Southern California

-Louie was beaten by "the bird" on the daily at Omori

-The Americans showed strength, flying over Japan, and sent RedCross packages and signs of hope to the POW's

-Louie trained to be a bombardier in Texas

-On December 4th, 1941 the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and killed more than 2000 people

-Japan invaded the Philippines and seized Guam

-Louie was predicted and reported to be the next mile champion

-Louie ran the fastest NCAA mile in history at 4:08.03

-The Olympic games in Japan in 1940 were moved to Finland
