Some big events that happened during this period were colonizing the new world and Sir Francis Drake became the first captain to successfully circumnavigate the globe

The Jacobean era saw a dramatic change in financial structure, rose from 350,000 pounds to 1,400,000 pounds. His reign ended in a economic depression. Luckily, Lord Treasurer Robert Cecil brought the debt down to about 300,000 pounds with an annual deficit of 46,000 pounds.

Bubonic Plague

Towards the end of the Jacobean era the "Black Death" infected and killed millions of English citizens, during the pandemic public places like playhouses and brothels were closed.

It was necessary for boys to attend grammar school but girls were rarely allowed in any place other than petty schools. Only the rich could afford good schooling for girls.

Ruled by King James I from 1603-1625. This was a very unfavoured period in English history due to his poor societal choices.

Queen Elizabeth I reigned from 1558-1603 often called the "Golden Age" of English culture because of its renaissance of poetry, music and art

Common food for most people included a large diet of bread as well as cheese, milk, beer, with small portions of meat, fish vegetables and some fruit

During the Elizabethan era Shakespeare's plays often demonstrated general happiness confidence and the optimist mood of the Elizabethans. However, during King James' reign, Shakespeare's plays had a more macabre feel and tone.
