The Uses

of Air

By Matt, Devansh and Lucas

Air plays a very important part in our life, we will talk about just a few of them today!

Air contains oxygen, which is essential for life on Earth. We inhaled air, taking the out oxygen and other gases our bodies need, then air we exhaled is made up of the gases useless to us - mainly carbon-dioxide.

A layer of ozone gas present high up in the atmosphere protects us from the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun. Also during daytime, the atmosphere prevents excessive heat from the sun from reaching us. At night, the atmosphere traps the surface heat and prevents it from escaping.

Moving air, called wind, has great force. It enables the movement of sailboats and gliders. It runs windmills, which are used to generate electricity. Wind also helps in the dispersal of seeds.

Carbon dioxide is taken from air by plants for photosynthesis, the process of making their food. The air we breathe out contains carbon dioxide. Exhaled air can be tested for the presence of carbon dioxide.

Air supports burning, the oxygen in air is essential, We burn fuels to cook food, heat things and make electricity and drive vehicles. The only reason small fires don't turn into huge explosions is because of the presence of nitrogen - which reduces the activity of oxygen.
