By: Vivian

and Cindy

Japan's Side

- Japan wanted to gain more power, land and goods, as China did. China refused to sign an agreement, so Japanese people decided to destroy all of the Chinese people so they could takeover their land. Japan planned a surprise attack on China.

- Japan’s Emperor Hirohito valued his country’s safety and protection. That is why after America dropped the atomic bombs he surrendered to the Chinese because all of their supplies have been

destroyed

Conclusion

-Even though the war is over, MANY people from China still hold grudges towards the Japanese.

Death Polls

- This war MANY people have died. Lots of people in China have fled their homes to many different countries to live.

- It is estimated 35 million people were wounded and killed that either participated in the war or didn't.

Oh Shnap :O

-In 1972 Mao Zedong (an important politician from the people’s republic of China) met with Kakuei Tanaka (the prime minister of Japan) to have a diplomatic relationship. The prime minister of Japan personally apologized to Mao Zedong for invading China but Mao Zedong responded with “You don’t have to apologize, your country has made a great contribution to China. Why?Because if Imperial Japan did not start the war, we would not be as mighty

and powerful as we are today. We are grateful and do not need your war

reparations.”

-The property loss by China was valued about to be 383 million US

dollars.

-It made up 50% of the casualties in the Pacific War

Nanjing Massacre

-Nanjing was the capital of China who got captured by

Japan. The Nanjing massacre was a very important part of

the second Sino war. It was also known as the rape of

Nanjing. It was estimated that 20,000 women including

infants and elderly were raped. 300,000 people (men,

women and children) were killed by the Japanese (only in Nanjing).

Beginning/Outbreak

- After women were raped, they were killed. Many Japanese warriors made families commit acts of incest. There were sons forced to rape their mothers and fathers forced to rape their daughters.

Monks were also forced to rape women. Young

women were not exempted from this; they

were cut open to let Japanese rape

them.

- The Second Sino War was a war between the Empire

of Japan and the people's republic of China. Japan were the ones who attacked China at the Marco Polo Bridge near Beijing. the war happened in 1937-1945 (8 years, 1 Month, 3 Weeks and 5 Days.

- Japan attacked China because they wanted to conquer their land and steal their goods.

- The Second Sino War was also known as the World War II in Far East Asia

- There were two Japanese soldiers that decided to have a competition to see who could kill 100 Chinese people just by cutting off their heads with a sword.

- Chiang Kai-Shek was a Nationalist Leader who was more interested in fighting with Mao Zedong who was his Communist Counter-part

China's Side

Other Countries that

were involved

- China didn’t want to share any of their land or goods. China wanted to maintain their reputation and power.

- Germany and the Soviet Union supported China at the beginning of the war, the United States then became China’s main diplomatic, financial and military supporter.

- China still holds many grudges against the Japanese for causing the Second Sino War. The Second Sino War is a very painful past for many people in China.

Past, Present & Future

- Germany and the Soviet Union supported China at the beginning of the war, the United States then became China’s main diplomatic,

financial and military supporter.

WorldViews

Past:

- The Second- Sino war ended because the United States and Soviet Union dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima in August 6, 1945. The Soviet Union destroyed all the armor, air supplies and artillery of the Japanese soldiers. Three days later, another bomb has been dropped but on Nagasaki by the United States. The emperor of Japan Hirohito then recorded an announcement on a radio station say they have surrendered.

Japan attacked China because they didn’t have as many goods and land, as China did. China is also just next door

to Japan and the biggest country in Asia. Many Chinese people joined the Japanese army out of fear and disagreements against General Chiang Kai- Siek. The Chinese people that have joined Japan are now known as traitors. After the war was finished, the traitors from China were killed for treason. Wanted POWER.

Japan

China

- Japan eventually was seen as a serious threat to Economic interests and the influence of the United States and

European powers in Asia

- The leader of China was General Chiang Kai-Shek

-The leader of Japan (who led

the war) was General Hirohito

:

Present:

-The Japanese Kwantung Army took over Manchuria (A Chinese Province)

- China valued their land and farming the most, to make sure Japan would not get it they fought to the very end.

To this present day, Japan still has not apologized to China for causing the Second Sino War. In China, they have a memorial for the victims/survivors that were involved in the Nanjing massacre

Future:

- Japan’s emperor/general Hirohito

valued his country’s safety and

protection. That is why after America

dropped the atomic bombs he

surrendered to the Chinese because

all of their supplies have been

destroyed.

The future depends on if Japan is willing to apologize or not. If they do, then it would depend on how China reacts to it.

Japan apologizes: - China could refuse to accept it and things would not be good in the future.

- China could accept it, but they would never

forget it. It would be nice to know to know that they did apologize to them.

Japan DOES not apologize:

- China could either not bring

it up or continue to hold

the grudge
