Alfonso and Miguel suprise mama and Esperanza by bringing them papa's roses from El Rancho De Las Rosas. Marta tries to convince the wokers to go on strick. Everyone disagreed. They couldnt risk there job. It gives them money they need for there families and they need the job.
They finally reached the United States. Alfono's brother and his family met them and drove them back to the camp. Before they got to the camp they picked up Marta. Esperanza is uncomfortable. Marta is very rude. She really misses papa so Miguel comforts her

Esperanza, Mama, Hortensia, Alfonso, and Miguel decide to go to California. Esperanza has to adjust to being around poor people. They have to leave Abuelita behind so her ankle heels. Esperanza was mad she thought she would still be rich. She finally understands the poor.
At the farm mama and Esperanza finally settle in with there new home. Esperanza is already mad and wants to move into a bigger and nicer home. In the morning everyone goes to work and Esperanza and Isabelle are left to take care of Lupe and Pepe. Isabelle teaches Esperanza how to change diapers and watch them carefully. Esperanza also has to sweep the wooden platform. She doeant know how so Marta and her friends make fun of her. Eventually Miguel taught her how to sweep so she isnt made fun of. Soon she is left alone with the babies and not knowing she cant feed babies raw plums she does. the babies get very sick and she feeds them rice water. it makes them feel better.

Mama isnt getting better. The doctor tells Esperanza that she got Asma. Nobody would be able to visit her in a while. Mama needed Abuelita to come and help her. Esperanza is collecting money to bring Abuelita to the Unites states
Mama gets really sick. The dust storm affected her the most. She ended up getting Valley fever and that means she needs to stay in the hospital. They have to call the doctor and get her a bunch of medications.

Papa dies. Tio Luis aks mama to marry him. Mama says no!She is known and very loved in the neighborhood. He is running for governor, and he will definitely win if he marry's her.
The burns down the house. In the middle of the night there was a fire. Abuelita was the last one to get out. She had to get her weaving bag. Miguel ran in the house and saved her. he got his shirt on fire and she hur her ankle. The family decides to leave Mexico
