The awful civil war and resulting death, rape, child soldiers displacement, discrimination, famine, disease etc.
Sudan is a dry poor country in the Sahara region of North Africa. It is made up of two races: Muslim Arabs in the North and Christian or Animist Negroes in the South.
WHO? Sudanese Migrants are usually the persecuted Christian Negroes from the South.
WHERE did they migrate to?
In Australia according to the 2006 census, 19,049 Sudanese born migrants lived in Australia. The largest population of Sudanese migrants in Australia live in Melbourne, closely followed by Sydney and then Perth.
Anytime during the civil war 1955-2005 but mostly concentrated during the second part of the civil war, from 1985.
The biggest increase of Sudanese migrants came to the Australia between 1996-2005. Most of the migrants were professional or middle class in the beginning and then as desperate refugees as the crisis worsened.
Sudan has been and still is in a state of War where violence, death, rape, child soldiers, famine and disease are unavoidable. It stands to reason that people would run away from this disaster to find security in a new country.
