In the 1950s, Miller and Urey conducted an experiment which involved simulating earth's early conditions. The result was that amino acids had developed from inorganic materials.
This proved organic materials could have been spontaneously produced when energy was introduced.
What is Evolution and Darwinism?
Last Common Universal Ancestor (LUCA): a single cell that lived perhaps 3 or 4 billion years ago, and from which all life has since evolved. Amazingly, every living thing we see around us (and many more that we can only see with the aid of a microscope) is related.
Natural Selection: takes out unwanted qualities in species over time, eventually creating new species and making others go extinct. Also referred to as “survival of the fittest.”
Darwinism: A theory of biological evolution developed by Charles Darwin and others, stating that all species of organisms have developed from other species, primarily through natural selection.
Darwinism has long been interpreted as a view of nature as based upon "chance."
There are advantageous genetic combinations chosen by nature. There are also, however, many combinations which are not beneficial.
Example: Cancer
Precambrian Era- first known appearance of life in form of "bacteria"(650-550m years ago)
Palaeozoic Era- bacteria begin evolving into fish, and fish later to evolve to reptiles.(540-250m years ago)
Mesozoic Era- first dinosaurs, first mammals, also includes the extinction of dinosaurs.(250-60m years ago)
Cenozoic Era- the mammals evolve in to the first humans
The belief that biological evolution occurs apart from any supernatural process.
Mutations are a random change in DNA.
Since all life came from a common ancestor, all variation was derived from mutations.
Radiometric dating or radioactive dating is a technique used to date materials such as rocks or carbon, in which trace radioactive impurities were selectively incorporated when they formed. (4.6)
