The Grand Canyon

Montgomery, AL

The Grand Canyon is said to be one of the seven wonders of the world, it was formed long ago from erosion. It still continues to grow because of this reason.

Major John Wesley discovered the Grand Canyon in 1869, by following the Colorado River.

It is 1 mile deep, 18 miles wide, and 277 miles long.

Montgomery is the capital of Alabama,the area of Montgomery is about 155.4 sq. miles. In 2012 the population in Montgomery was over 200,000 people.

Montgomery, AL was the first capital chosen by the Confederacy, because of it's nationality and the size it's of population.

The Civil Rights movement took place here.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a pastor in Montgomery for over 6 years.

The Great Salt Lake

This lake is the biggest lake in the Western Hemisphere and is the 4th biggest salt lake in the world.

Fish and other aquatic animals aren't able to swim here because of large amounts of salt.

The Great Salt Lake is in Utah.

Washington DC

Atlanta is the capital of Georgia. From 1831-1835 Atlanta was called Marthasville, named after General Wilson Lumpkins's daughter,Martha.

In times of the Civil War, William T. Sherman went through Atlanta and completely burned it down, this being Sherman's March to The Sea.

Washington DC is in a place where four quadrants (states) meet, and is 68 square miles. It is placed on land in which used to be home of Maryland and Virginia. Washington,DC isn't a real state, it's an important piece of land that was made just for presidential purposes.

Pearl Harbor is in Hawaii.

On December 7, 1941 Japanese fighter planes attacked the U.S base of Pearl Harbor.

This is known as one of the deadliest attacks in history, killing over 2,000 people and only lasting less than 2 hours.
