Objective

Develop intercultural awareness of the learners so they will be prepared to unmask stereotypes and prejudices in situations of communication

Procedures

They will discuss about the following topics:

  • Which aspects of the video portray a different foreign culture (not American)? How are they represented?
  • Why are they a cause of conflict in the situation?
  • Have you detected any stereotypes related to this foreign culture?

Conclusion

They students will have taken an ethnographic approach to the episode, reflecting on the cultural aspects related to the foreign culture. In addition, they will understand what can be a source of conflict in intercultural communication, and be aware of essentialist views of cultures.
