There are about 48 000 people living in Mažeikiai. Mažeikiai is not a very big city. It has got 2 gimnasiums and 7 schools, 4 primary schools and also there are the schools of music, dance, art and sports.
Our school was opened in1996.
The symbol of our school is a bird.
There are over 800 students and around 100 staff. We have a Students‘ Council and the President.
Our assessment system has got the range of marks from 1 to 10. The highest mark a student can get is 10. We have got a "100 tens club" which celebrates every student who has collected a 100 tens during the school year.
We have got two departments: primary school and basic school.
Students start school at the age of 6. The juniors stay at primary school from the year 1 to 4. There is also a preparatory class. we call it "year 0". Very young children attend this class. They are 5 years old.
Starting from year 5 to year 8 students go to basic school. Then some of them leave school and enroll gimnasium. Before leaving school, they do standard tests that are arranged by the Ministry of Education.
Other students stay at school two more years till year 10, then go to vocational school or gimnasium depending on their achievements.
