How prevalent is Shaken Baby Syndrome?

What can we do?

Educate parents and other caregivers that it is okay to take a break when frustration levels get high.

  • In the United States, 1200 children each year are hospitalized or killed due to shaking.

Gently place the baby or child in a safe place and walk away to calm yourself.

  • Shaking is a leading cause of child abuse death.

Take deep breaths, call a friend, call a parent hotline.

Remember....

Take a break - don't shake.

Babies can cry a lot in the first few

months of life and this can be frustrating.

But it will get better.

You are not a bad parent or

caregiver if your baby continues to cry after you have done all you can to calm him/her.
