Colombian Stereotypes
-Colombia is a third world country
People are often surprised when they actually visit Colombia and discover that the country has roads, airports and has modern cities . Colombia of course still has parts that are still developing, but the country is not a Third World Country . Modern cities like Bogota and Medellin help support that this stereotype is in fact false.
-Colombia is really dangerous and you will get kidnapped or robbed if you go there.
Colombia like all countries, has its dangerous areas but this does not mean that automatically you will be in danger if you go there. Many tourists love going to this country and you are guaranteed a lovely experience if you go.
- All Colombians do cocaine or are involved in drugs.
False, there was a time in history where there was a large narco trafficking buisness yet this doesnt mean all Colombians are drug users.
-All Colombian women are beautiful and curvy models.
-As this is true that many Colombians are very beautiful, not all women look like perfect hour glass figures.
-The culture and food is just like Mexicans.
-Many just assume that all Spanish people are automatically Mexicans and that Colombians eat burritos, tacos, and wear sombreros. This is false as Colombian culture is very different and has its own local dishes.
Colombia is located in South America and is a wonderful and beautiful nation, full of biodiversity, culture and history. Unfortunately like most things, the nation experiences a lot of negative and false stereotyping and people still associate it with viciousness, drugs, and being dangerous. These generalizations can limit peoples perspective and we're here to help you see the reality of Colombia.
