BANNED IN 1987
Protecting the Ozone Layer
Resources
In 1987, a group of nations, around the world, gathered in Canada to come up with a plan to take action against ozone depletion. They came up with the Montreal Protocol, in which the nations agreed to limit their production of CFCs.

Effects on Plants
UV light excess causes plants
to have trouble with their photosynthesis process,
causing less crop
production in overall.
THE OZONE LAYER
IS THINNING
Effects on Animals
High levels of UV light kills
phytoplankton (basic food source),
disrupting oceanic food chains.
It also causes an increase of
CO2 in the atmosphere.
Global decline in amphibians
(toads and salamanders).

Effects on Humans
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs):
Propellants for everyday products
The effects of ozone thinning on humans can be very damaging. UV light is dangerous since it damages DNA. Some damages are:
- Increase incidence of skin cancer
- Premature aging of the skin
- Increase incidence of cataracts
- Weak immune responses
