"The Lottery" Story Chart

Setting

Quotes

"...the safe of Mr. Summer's coal company..."

"... they still remembered to use stones."

Time

This story seemd take place i would think in the later 1800's. The reason i think this is one they were stoning people to death. Then for the fact it seemed as if the town was based around the coal company. Not many towns are like any more.

Location

I would say this seemed to take place in a small town, that revolved around the coal company. That almost every one in it had some thing to do with the company.

Characterization

Protagonist

"... It's Tessie... Let's finish guickly... remembered to use stones..."

I would say Tessie is the protagonist just because she is the one in the end who gets stoned.

Antagonist

Quotes

"...no one liked to upset even as much tradition as was represented by the black box."

Reasoning

The "Black Box" was the antigonist, because no one wanted to change it or get rid of it. Even though it brouth death to Tessie and many before.

Conflict

Quotes

"... the black spot Mr. Summers had made the night before..."

Reasoning

It seemd like it was society just not wanting to change. What use to be a form of entertainment, involved in stoning people to death. The people might not like it but scared to change it. The only time they ever speak up about it is when their the once getting stoned to death though.

It is...

Person Vs Society

Person Vs Self

Theme

Quotes

I really didn't even find any quotes that lead to theme

Reasoning

The theme i had a hard time finding forn this story. In the end it seemed to go back to treat people the way you like to be treated, because next time it could be you getting stoned.

The End!!!!
