An American Composer

Leroy Anderson Composed what is known as "Pops" music - Music that is composed for the orchestra using show tunes or what is popular at the time.

He is especially remembered for his widely recognized and well-love winter theme, "Sleigh Ride." In the 1950's, his piece "The Syncopated Clock" was used as a theme for the Late Show.

His unique style uses creative instrumental effects and occasionally makes use of sound-generating items such as a typewriter and sandpaper.

For his contribution to the recording industry, Leroy Anderson has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He has been called one of the great American masters of light orchestral style. His one-of-a-kind compositions will forever be a part of our American music culture.

Leroy Anderson was an American composer, He composed short, light concert pieces written for the orchestra. Many of his pieces were introduced by the Boston Pops Orchestra.

Anderson was born in 1908 in Massachusetts to Swedish parents. His mother gave him his first piano lessons when he was young. He continued his piano study and Harvard University. This is where he began composing music.
