Theme

Shapes and Colors

  • Fincher uses unsaturated colors and sharp edges to add to the tone of impending doom and to reflect the attitude of the characters.

While there are many possible themes present in the film the most prevalent was the theme of excess and how excess is a sin that everyone commits and is the root of every deadly sin.

Tone

The tone of the film is that of impending doom. Everything from the dreary city to the Paradise Lost quote about a hard road ahead adds to this tone.
