Juliet, the Tragic Hero?

Original: I do not believe women should be treated in a sexist manner.

Fixed: There are many reasons why sexism towards all genders is a terrible thing.

Original: Smoking is bad for the body.

Fixed: Many body issues have been traced back to smoking.

1.Juliet could be considered a tragic hero for many reasons.

2.One of those reasons is that even though she is a Lord's daughter she goes through a reversal of fortunes.

2a. She is a wealthy girl, a lord's daughter, and she is set up to marry a prince.

Commmentary: She is wealthy and has all the material things, but when she wants to say no to getting married, she has to.

2b. She has to go through her cousins death and her husband is banished. This is where she says "Can heaven be so envious?"

Commmentaryb:

Her cousin's death is bad enough but then to find out that her huisband of 3 hours is the killer and she'll never see him again it kills her.

3. When watching Juliet's suffering I was inspired when she realized that marrying Paris wasn't going to work for her and knew she had to take matters into her own hands.

3a. She goes to Friar Lawrence with her problem and tells him her solution, which is killing herself because she would rather be dead then marry Paris. He suggests a new idea that makes her happy and she won't have to kill herself.

CommentaryA: She takes this matter into her own hands so she doesn't have to marry the one she doesn't love.

3b. She tells Nurse "O, find him! Give this ring to my true knight and bid him come to take his last farewell."

CommentaryB: She tells Nurse to give him the ring so he can get his behind to her so she can see him again.

4. The last reason she could be considered a tragic hero is she goes through uncommon suffering.

4a. Not only does her husband get banished but her cousin is murdered in the same day. To this she says "There is no end, no limit, measure, bound, in that word's death ; no words can that woe sound."

CommentaryA: It's one thing to lose a cousin and then your husband at different times, but for her it happens all at oce and she can't do anything about it.

4b. When Friar Lawrence tells her her Romeo is dead and they need to leave she says, "Go, get thee hence for I will not away." She then is so upset her beloved is dead she takes his dagger and drives it straight through her heart.

CommentaryB: After Romeo see her "dead" and he kills himself Juliet realizes that she can't live without him and having no one else to kill her she has to face the fear and kill herself. YIKES!

5. Given the evidence shown I feel Juliet is qualified to be a tragic hero in her story.
