Jacques Cartier was born at Saint-Malo, Brittany,France
On December 31,1491
To go to St.Lawrence and permantly make an establishment along the river in behalf of France with five ships, Cartier on May of 1541set sail to complete the task.
With two ships and 61 men, Jacques set sail on April 20, 1534 and arrived at the americas 20 days later.Before making three North America voyages and major ones Jacques explored Brazil in the Americas reportedly.

Of what Cartier had seen, he made a report and King Francis was impressed. The following year (1535) on May, Cartier was sent back with 110 men on three ships. Two captured Indians now served as guides to Jacques. Navigating the St.Lawrence river, Jacques and his crew reached Quebec.
The ships that he used were the Grande hermine, Petite hermine, Émérillion, Georges and Saint-Brieux.
With a camp set up at Quebec again and Cartier found quite the bit of what he thought was diamonds and gold. Not wanting to wait for the colonists to show up, Cartier set sail for France abandoning their base. Cartier made a pit stop at Newfoundland and there, he was ordered to go back to Quebec the next day. However, during the night, Cartier and his crew snuck out and went to France. when they returned, the gold and diamonds they found was worthless and the plans to settle along the St.lawrence River were cancelled due to harsh winters. After those setbacks, there was barely any interest in the New World, Cartiers career of exploring came to an end. Jacques Cartier died on September 1, 1557.
