The climax of the Odyssey is when Odysseus and Telemachos meet up at the cottage right outside of vow revenge on all of the suitors.
There is a lot of rising action in The Odyssey. Most of Odysseus's adventures including his fight with Polyphemos, as well as his long stay on Calypso's island all leads up too the climax.
After Odysseus and Telemachos vow revenge they go back to Ithaca and, after beating all of the suitors in an archery competition Odysseus and Telemachos with the help of some faithful servants massacre all the suitors, Antinous being the first one dead. Then the family of the suitors try to kill them, being stopped by Odysseus's dad who after being revived on seeing his son kills Antinous's dad.
A symbol in The Odyssey is the ocean, which not only symbolizes the immense separation and loneliness of Odysseus but also the substantial power gap between the gods and mortals.
Odysseus has been away from his home for over 10 years, and now his son Prince Telemachos has to deal with his mothers ignorant suitors. So Athena helps him find out the fate of his father, while the gods of Olympus are helping Odysseus escape his troubles.
The main struggle of The Odyssey is Odysseus getting home back to his family, which is mostly a man vs. nature conflict, but a large internal conflict is loneliness, which is a big idea and motif in the book as he is stranded and held as a prisoner away from his family.
Odysseus: Protagonist of story, Odysseus is stranded away from his home in Ithaca after the battle of Troy where he became famous for his cunning and intelligence.
Telemachus: Son of Odysseus, he is annoyed with the people in his home so he decides to go out and find out what happened to his father.
Penelope: Wife of Odysseus, is harassed by many suitors due to the fact that Odysseus is away from home.
Perseverance of men will always overcome obstacles: Odysseus fought a long hard war at Troy, and then right after had to go through many tough obstacles. Then he was enslaved by a minor Goddess that was was in love with him
After slaughtering the suitors Odysseus reveals himself to his kingdom and is welcomed with joy. He goes to see his father after seeing his wife and son. Odysseus's family is reunited with one another and his power over the kingdom is restored, after all those years of suffering.
Setting is all over ancient Greece, but the beginning and end is in Ithaca where Odysseus's house is.
