Missionary Work

  • For the next few years she served a poor parish in La Libertad, El Salvador.
  • She managed its budget, played with children, and helped other church workers.
  • Donovan and the sisters buried the bodies and supported the distraught relatives who searched for their loved ones.
  • Accepted a job as a management consultant in Arthur Andersen.
  • Engaged to a young physician, Douglas Cable.
  • Felt a strong call to motherhood as well as her call to do mission work.
  • Began volunteering in the Cleveland Diocese Youth Ministry.
  • That is where she heard about the diocesan mission project in El Salvador.

  • Donovan was born on April 10, 1953.

  • Raised Catholic and deepened her faith in her college years.
  • Attended Mary Washington College in Virginia.
  • Spent a year abroad in Ireland.
  • Deepened her faith through contact with a priest who had been a missionary in Peru.
