To be an author you had to have gone to college at least for 4 years to get the knowledge of thinking up ideas to be based on your book. It's a lot harder than it looks. It's hard to think up a whole story in your mind and then write it on paper. That's why you need to really study hard to think up such good ideas.

The technology hat authors use is simple. They simply think of an interesting story in their head, write it down on a piece of paper, edit their writing and then type down their final draft on the computer.
Every author has a different workplace. for example, non-fiction writers work for governments, agencies and loads of different businesses while most fiction writers are self employed. Here are some other places authors work:
