Various chemical substances (including mercury) , and waste pollution affect this area of marine life.
-Do not buy bottled water it will take hundreds if not thousands of years to decompose. If this is not stopped millions more plastic water bottles will invade our ocean (and will continue to harm our marine life).
-Other plastic based products will also have an equal affect, but can easily be replaced with a more eco-friendly product that can be reused.
Water pollution isn't just about the tons of plastic poured into our oceans. Chemicals also play a very big role, when gallons upon gallons are poured into the ocean (quite common chemicals like household paint). Our fish in the North Atlantic ocean are often dying, and being poisoned with chemicals that remain in the ocean. Mercury is a very common chemical that is found in fish dying in the ocean, and some traces of mercury found in the fish sold today at retail stores. Around half of the mercury being released today is from fossil fuels, which fall directly into the ocean, being absorbed by small micro-plankton, the mercury travels up into the food chain (keep in mind that mercury density increases as it travels through the food chain, as it's being passed onto bigger fish) until it reaches more commonly known fish, and mammals that we come in contact with and eat often.
Thank you for your time!
For my topic about water awareness I chose to research about how pollution effects marine life globally. Instead I decided narrow down my research the North Atlantic ocean specifically instead of just a general topic. The following facts will mainly be focused on The North Atlantic Ocean and what affects pollution has on the marine life specific to that area.
- Whales: Right, Blue, Bowhead, Sei, Beluga, Grey whales and Fin.
-Wasse/ Manatee
-Green turtle
-Hawksbill turtle
-Leatherback Turtle
-Coral: Elkhorn, Black, White
-Baiji Dolphin
- Spotted,and Ringed Seal
