Miguel showed up again, with abulita by his side. He ended up bring her to California with Esperanza's money. Around Esperanza's fourthteenth birthday she is looking forward to her life in the U.S..

  • Esperanza grows up on a farm in El Rancho De Las Rosas with a very loving family. Her family was wealthy so she had lots of servants.

After getting to the U.S. it was a hard ride for Esperanza. She had to adjust to a low income life. Esperanza stayed at home and took care of the home and the two little girls. It was a hard move for Esperanza.

After Esperanza's father death her uncles came a were very mean. Tio Luis threatened Esperanza's mother and told her she had to marry him or they would loose everything. Esperanza's mother agreed to the marriage with Tio Luis. The farm was then caught on fire and Abulita twisted her ankle.

Esperanza's father went missing. He was then found dead and brought back to the family on the day before Esperanza's thirteenth birthday.

After Esperanza's mother agreed to marry Tio Luis, she also planned an escape route. Espernza and her mother and their servents, including Miguel, are headed for California. They took a train all the way to the U.S.. Their Abulita was left behind in a convent because of her hurt ankle.

As Esperanza was adjusting to life in the U.S. there was a dust storm like gave her mom yellow fever. Esperanza had to then step up her game and work hard for her family. She started saving money to bring her abulita back. Her mother eventually got better and returned home. Esperanza and Miguel got into a argument and he dissapeared with Esperanza's money to bring her abulita to the U.S..
