Uses and Gratification Theory

The uses and gratification theory looks at the audience as an active audience who integrates media into their own life. It looks at how and why people choose to consume media. This means that its not really looking at 'what media does to people' but instead its looking at 'what people do with media'.

Another thing UGT suggests that the audience are responsible for choosing the media that suits them and their needs. It also says that to achieve their specific gratifications they use the media that suits them. Subsequently this theory would infer that the media go up against other information sources for views gratifications.
