What is SIDS?
Some factors are those which a parent cannot control
Sex: Boys over girls
Age: 2nd - 3rd months
Race: African-American, American-Indian, and Alaska Natives
Sleeping Conditions
Defined as- the unexplained asphyxial death, during sleep, of a seemingly healthy child less than a year old.
- Stomach/side
- Face down on a very soft surface
- With parents
Risk Factors
Some factors can put a baby at extra risk for SIDS such as:
- Low birth weight/Premature birth
- Brain abnormalities
- Respiratory infection
- Environmental stressors
Pregnancy Factors
- Younger than 20
- Drug user
- Inadequate prenatal care
