Mind Map Ch 8-14

-After Hassan got raped, Amir and Hassan spent less and less time together.

“For a week,[Amir] barely saw Hassan. p85

-On Amir's 13th birthday, Amir got many gifts, and there were more than 400 people invited. Amir had to greet each of the guest personally, even Assef.

“On the south end of the Garden, in the shadows of a loquat tree, was the servants’ home, a modest little mud hut where Hassan lived with his father.”p6

-Hazaras, such as Hassan and his father, Ali are being looked down on by others.

“They called him “flat-nosed” because of Ali and Hassan’s characteristic Hazara Mongoloid features.”p9

-Amir’s father, Baba was a very successful man who did all the things people said he couldn’t do.

“Skeptics had urged him to stop [Baba]’s foolishness and hire an architect. Of course, Baba refused, and everyone shook their heads in dismay at [Baba]’s obstinate ways.”p14

- Baba told Amir that there is only one sin: theft. Every other sin is a variation of theft.

“When you kill a man, you steal a life,” Baba said. “You steal his wife’s right to a husband; rob his children of a father.”p19

-Amir would often read to Hassan, but at the same time, Hassan had better understanding than Amir.

“What does he know, that illiterate Hazara? He’ll never be anything but a cook. How dare he criticize you?”p37

-Hassan protected Amir from the racist bully named Assef.

“You Hazara made a big mistake today, Amir,” [Assef] said. P46

-Hassan was the best Kite Runner in town.

“It’s coming,” [Hassan] said. I could hardly breathe and he didn’t even sound tired. P57

-Amir won the kite contest and Hassan went to got the winning Kite for him.

“Hassan!” [Amir] called. “Come back with it!”p71

-Hassan got the blue kite, but was raped by Assef and Amir witnesses it but did not help.

“I ran because I was a coward. I was afraid of Assef and what he would do to me.” By Amir p82

Foreshadowing

-The whole first chapter is foreshadowing.

perparing for Amir's memory, what happend in the past

After i had read this section(Ch 1-7), I realized how miserable racist can be. Hassian and Amir were fed by the same breat, and had been living together since they can remember. But because Hassian and Amir, Baba and Ali are different races, their life are extreamly different. For example, when Ali walked on the street, kids would make fun of him and call him flat-nose. And for Hassian, even though he and Amir are brother-like, Amir had never considered (admit)Hassian as his "real" friend but servent's son. "What is a boy like you doing here at this time of the day looking for a Hazara?" This quote really touched my heart, and when Hassian got raped by Assef, Amir just watched instead of fight for Hassian. I really felt sorry for Hassian after all the things he had done for Amir. I really like this book so far, The Kite Runner reallly grabs my attention, and I am looking forward reading more.

The Kite Runner

Symbolism

Personification

Irony

It is ironic that when Hassian fixed his lips, some situation occurred causing him to never smile again
