There are two parts to writing a MLA paper
Part 1: Format
All MLA Papers are:
Left side Justified
One Inch Margins
Double spaced between ALL lines
In a 12pt. easily read font like Times New Romans
Title is NOT on its own page and is italicized and centered one line under the heading and one line above the first sentence
Have a header like the following in the top left corner
Student Name
Teacher Name
Class and Period
Date Spelled out
If the paper is multi-paged, a header with the teacher's name and paper number at the top right side
Part 2: Citations
In-Text Citations:
Subscripts leading to citations in the footnote
are NOT used
Instead the FIRST piece of information in the citation is placed in parenthesis along with the page number if applicable, are placed after the last sentence containing the information
Works Cited Page
There is also a second step to citation in MLA format
A works cited page is used at the end of your paper to provide additional information to the reader as to the sources used
The works cited page should always be at the end and on its own paper, separated from the actual writing.
Your works cited page should:
Be double spaced just as the rest of your paper
Provide the sources in alphabetical order
Cite ALL information used, not just information in quotations
Be formatted as follows
Author Last name, First name. Title in Italics and correct capitalization. Publishing Location: Publisher, Publishing date. Page number. Medium
Use this format for every medium.
If a piece of information is not included or not applicable, do not include it
