To encourage better communication, I would find a way to non-verbally communicate that the pictures on the walls are places I would like to travel. I have traveled before around the Caribbean, but never to places in Europe which is what the pictures in the room depict. If I could find a way to non-verbally communicate that the picture are of places I would like to go, more conversation would open up about other people wanting to go to Europe as well. It would also up more conversation about my dreams and let people know more about who I am as a person.

I have many different artifacts in my room. The books I have suggest that I am very educated because I like to read. I hang all the different medals I have won from sports on my mirror. This communicates to others that I am very athletic and devoted to my sport. I also have a little statue of an Eiffel Tower that is in my room, suggesting that I aspire to travel in life. My bedspread suggests my femininity. It has a black background with various colors of green fuzzy dots all over it.

On my dresser I have a picture frame that has a collage of me, my brother, and my sister. The pictures non-verbally communicate that I am family oriented, and that I love hanging out with my family. The pictures suggest that I am easily able to form close bonds with people. Also, the pictures non-verbally communicate that when people verbally communicate with me, I am very down to earth. I am also very defensive of my family, and care a lot about them.

The furniture in my room is arranged to promote interaction. My room is very open. When you first walk in, the bed is in the middle of the back wall and there is one dresser on wither side on my room. After the foot of the bed, there is a large space before you reach my closet. The open space promotes interaction because noting seems to be blocking the way of conversation.

ARTWORK

The artwork in my bedroom is very different than the artwork in the bedrooms of other people. All the artwork in my bedroom is black and white, and depicts places I would like to travel. This artwork communicates in a nonverbal manner that I am adventurous and would like to travel throughout my life. Traveling is important to me because I enjoy experiencing the culture of others. I use the pictures to non-verbally communicate what I aspire to do in my life.

MY BEDROOM

This room does not have any common space shared with other rooms. The door to the upstairs hallway blocks off my bedroom from the rest of the house. This effects communication in a negative way because if someone in the house wants to talk to me, they have to go upstairs and through the door so that I can hear them. Also, when talking through walls, you cannot see the body language of others. This negatively impacts communication because you do not know how others are responding to what you are saying, and you may misinterpret a verbal response.

My bedroom is the most personal room that I have in my house. My bedroom is a place where I go for personal and social space, but it non-verbally communicates who I am as a person. My bedroom has bright, lime green walls. The color of the walls non-verbally communicate with others, saying that I am a very outgoing person. The color green also suggests that I am relaxed and experiencing harmony when I am in that space. The brightness of the green color also suggests that when verbally communicating, I am a very cheerful and positive person.

All over my bedroom there are many pictures of me playing volleyball. These pictures non-verbally communicate that I am an athlete, and that I really care about the sport. Others can infer that I am very active, and do not like to be lazy. Also, the great amount of volleyball pictures that I have suggest that I am a very dedicated person, and that I enjoy doing what I love.

My bedroom is very organized. I have specific drawers for specific articles of clothing. I also have specific drawers where I keep things that remind me of an event or vacation. The floor of my bedroom is always clean as well. Organization helps to non-verbally communicate that I am very efficient. I do not like to spend my time looking for something I need. I prefer to know where everything is so that I can move onto something else that day. Also, everything in my room looks like it fits in the space. All of my main belongings, including my chair, pictures, bedspread, ect. go with the room theme of block, white and lime green.

I have a shelf in my bedroom full of books that I love and enjoy reading. The books non-verbally communicate that I enjoy reading. They also suggest that knowledge is meaningful to me. Others can infer that when verbally communicating with me, I am intelligent and adventurous because of the different types of books on the shelf. The books also suggest that I do different things other than spending hours on my cell phone, so people can infer that when I talk to them, I will not be constantly texting and communicating with others at the same time.

My clothing in my closet is very organized. People can infer from my clothing that I am very casual and athletic. I prefer wearing clothes that do not have fancy designs on them. I think that plain and simple clothing is the best. I also have a lot of running shorts, yoga pants, and volleyball t-shirts. These articles of clothing communicate with people in a nonverbal manner that I am an athlete and enjoy being active.
