Vhils uses drills, chisels, and different types of paint to create his art on the walls of buildings.

Vhils says he was creating portraits for an impact of the city. Their identity was being built up by layers. The advertisements were creating a bridge between who they are and what they are made of. The palettes of colors are showing parts of history, so he destroys the surface to reveal whats underneath. Also making something invisible visible, by digging for something more deeper than the surface.

About Vhils

Vhils is from Portuguese raised during a period of the revolution. That was when he witnessed much destruction and the effects of the war on the walls. One of his most popular forms of media is his relief portrait. He has his work on walls and plaster all over the world.
