Lesson 3 Questions

-States must honor every states law even if there own are different.

-States set and enforce own criminal laws.

-Criminals that flee from the state they committed a crime in have to go back to the original state.

-If governor refuses a extradition request to another governor the federal government may intervene.

1. Extradite means to sent a person back to the original state they are wanted in. The constitution wants states to comply with this rule because the person is waiting trail in that state.

2. Interstate compacts are not perfect because congress has to approve them if not then nothing can be done.

-states also regulate the safety and sanitary conditions for workers

-states may provide minimum wage that business must pay to employees and will provide payments to people who are injured on the job or to people who loose their jobs.

-laws prohibiting crimes such as murder, rape assault, burglary, and the sale of use of dangerous weapons or drugs are all part of the state laws called the criminal code.

-local governments state these laws through their local police forces

-Before the 1900 only 13 interstate compacts had received congressional approval. Today nearly 200 interstates compacts are in forced.

-Lawsuits between states

-If states are unable to resolve there disputes they will take it to the Supreme Court.

-They will sue state to state for various reasons.

-Arizona, California, and Colorado had a lawsuit over the water in the Colorado river.

-States can make laws about anything that is not prohibited by the constitution or by national law

-states regulate and promote business, preserve natural resources,make and enforce criminal laws, protect individual rights, and provide for public health, education, and welfare.

3. Powers held by state government is voting rights to their residents. also payment for collage and hospitals.

4. The way states resolve conflicts can be through lawsuits they do it this way so it doesnt hurt the union and also congress wants them to do it peacefully.

-The constitution provided that states have to give the same fundamental rights to people from other states as they will give their own citizens.

-States cannot try out-of-states residents differently if the distinction is reasonable.

-The construction requires for states to settle their differences peacefully.

-Congress must approve interest compacts.

-This requirement provides states from threatening the union.
